Advertiser and lending disclosure
We are a free connector, not a lender. This page explains how we are paid, what that means for the offers you see and how to read the rates and examples on this site.

01
We are a connector, not a lender
Our service passes the information you submit to lenders and partners in our network. We do not make loans, approve or decline requests, set rates or terms, or make any credit decision.
Every loan offer you receive after using the request form comes from an independent lender that makes its own decisions. The lender reviews your information, decides whether to make an offer, sets the APR, term, fees and repayment schedule, and funds and services the loan if you accept. We are not an agent or representative of any lender, and we are not responsible for a lender's decisions, products or customer service. Submitting a request does not mean you have applied for a loan with us, because we do not offer loans.
02
How we are compensated
Using our service is free for borrowers. Lenders, lending networks and other partners pay us for referrals, usually when we pass along a request or when a borrower takes a further step with that lender.
Compensation arrangements vary. A partner might pay a set amount for each request it receives, a different amount when a borrower completes an application, or a share tied to a funded loan. You never pay us a fee, and our compensation is not added to the rate or fees a lender quotes you. A lender's offer is the same whether you reach it through our service or not, subject to that lender's own practices.
03
How compensation may affect which offers appear
Compensation can affect which lenders participate in our network and, in some places, the order in which offers or links appear. We do not include every lender or every loan product available.
Because our network is limited to partners that work with us, there may be lenders outside it that would offer you a lower APR, a longer term or a smaller fee. A local credit union, your own bank or a lender you find on your own may have better options for your situation. We encourage you to compare at least two or three offers, including ones from outside our network, before you accept any loan. Our guide to comparing lenders covers what to check.
04
No guarantee of approval or terms
Submitting a request does not guarantee that any lender will make you an offer, approve your application or provide a particular amount, rate or term. Lenders decide.
Lenders review factors such as income, employment, existing debt payments, credit history, bank account history and state of residence. Two people asking for the same $1,500 can receive very different results, or one may receive no offer at all. Any preliminary offer may change after the lender verifies your information, and final terms are set only in the loan agreement you sign with the lender.
05
Representative example
A $2,000 loan repaid over 12 months at 24% APR would have an estimated payment of $189.12 per month, a total repayment of $2,269.44 and $269.44 in interest, with no origination fee assumed.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Amount borrowed | $2,000 |
| Term | 12 months |
| APR | 24% |
| Monthly payment | $189.12 |
| Total repayment | $2,269.44 |
| Total interest | $269.44 |
| Origination fee | No origination fee assumed |
This example is for illustration. If a lender charged a 5% origination fee on the same loan and deducted it from the proceeds, you would receive $1,900 while still repaying the full $2,000 plus interest, which raises the effective cost. Your actual APR, payment and total cost depend on the lender's offer.
06
APR ranges and loan terms are estimates
Lenders in our network typically offer APRs from about 6.99% to 35.99% and terms of roughly 6 to 36 months. Origination fees of 0% to 10% apply at some lenders.
These ranges are estimates gathered from the general practices of lenders that work with us and can change at any time. The lowest rates usually go to applicants with strong credit and steady income; rates near the top of the range are more common for fair or limited credit. Some lenders deduct the origination fee from the amount you receive. Funding can happen as soon as the next business day after approval, depending on the lender and your bank. See our rates guide for estimated APRs by credit tier.
Late payments may result in late fees and can be reported to credit bureaus, which may lower your credit score. Missed payments may also lead to collection activity under the lender's terms.
07
Availability varies by state
Loan products, amounts, rates and terms differ by state because of state lending laws and each lender's licensing. Some lenders do not operate in every state.
Depending on where you live, fewer lenders may see your request, the maximum amount or term may be lower, or rate caps may limit what a lender can charge. Residents of some states may not receive any offer through our network. Lenders are responsible for following the laws of the states where they lend.
08
Credit inquiries: soft or hard
Whether your credit is checked with a soft or a hard inquiry depends on the lender. Soft inquiries do not affect credit scores; hard inquiries may lower a score slightly for a time.
Many lenders use a soft inquiry to show a preliminary offer and run a hard inquiry only after you choose to continue with a full application. Others may run a hard inquiry earlier. Each lender should tell you before it performs a hard inquiry. Lenders may also check alternative data sources, such as bank account history or specialty consumer reporting agencies.
09
Editorial independence
Our guides, calculators and comparisons are written to help you decide, and compensation from lenders does not decide what a guide recommends or which alternatives it mentions.
Writers do not receive pay tied to the offers readers choose. When a cheaper path exists, such as a hardship plan from a medical provider or a 0% promotional card you can repay in time, our guides say so. Content on this site is general information, not financial, legal or tax advice.
